Classic Porsche on long straight road by Tatton Park Cheshire

A classic red Porsche heads down the long straight road by Tatton Park, south of Ashley Cheshire.

Cheshire is a place where you’ll see lots of dream cars, whether on an average day, or on one of the classic car show days at Tatton Park.

As a child I dreamt of driving down country lanes in Cheshire at the wheel of my Lotus Elan, just like I’d seen on The Avengers, or maybe in Steed’s vintage car, or one of the cars I designed myself.

When you’re in Cheshire - or at least this part of Cheshire - you never know what exotic or expensive sports car is about to come around the next bend.

Misty view over Cheadle Heath chimney pots

Misty view over Cheadle Heath chimney pots

The silhouetted tree tops, roofs and chimney pots of Cheadle Heath are seen here during September misty weather from Edgeley Rd near Alexandra Park, Stockport.

Just visible in the distance is the outline of blocks of flats in Wythenshawe, the Manchester overspill town built on Cheshire land.

I grew up on Edgeley Rd just down the hill from here. Views over urban landscapes in misty weather have a timeles quality about them, here heightened by film grain. If you don’t look too closely at the aerials, this could be 1968 or 1978, in fact it was late September 1998.

In conditions like this, when the landscape appears timeless, you feel you could almost walk back into your childhood, something I would like to do.

Visit www.subbrit.org.uk for views of the disused Cheadle Heath station, not far from here.

The Cage Lyme Park seen from Alderley Edge

The Cage Lyme Park seen from Alderley Edge

Looking from Stormy Point on Alderley Edge, The Cage can be seen on the hilltop within the Lyme Park estate.

See the view from next to The Cage

There are many spectacular views across Cheshire from Alderley Edge and other landmarks. The barren hills beyond the Cage are across the border in Derbyshire.

The main part of Cheshire is a fertile plain extending between the Pennines to the east and the Welsh hills to the west.
